Facing problems at work due to a drink drive charge? Speak to our recommended drink drive solicitors.

Do you feel you’ve been treated less favourably than other colleagues or discriminated against by your employer because of your sexual orientation?

The Equality Act 2010 protects employees from the application stage of employment right through to dismissal and these safeguards provided by law may even apply after your employment has terminated, say for example if your former employer provides a poor reference or fails to provide one at all because of your sexual orientation.

Our experienced team can provide high quality advice if;

  • You have been treated badly because of your sexual orientation
  • Your employer’s policies disadvantage you because of your sexual orientation
  • You bring a complaint about sexual orientation discrimination and are later treated unfairly because of doing so
  • You are treated in a way which is intimidating, humiliating, degrading or offensive

The unfair treatment you receive may not come directly from your employer. If you are subject to unfair treatment from fellow employees, the employers’ agents or even third parties, you are still entitled to bring a claim and seek resolution. If you feel you have been treated unfairly due to the sexual orientation of someone else (for example a family member), you will also be protected by the Equality Act.

You may feel that your employer has discriminated against you unintentionally. However, you may still be able to bring action against your employer even if they do not intend to discriminate or even if they are of the same sexual orientation as you.

Discrimination takes many forms such as exclusion from training or failing to give pay rises or bonuses or even dismissal. Unlike most claims for unfair dismissal, protection from discrimination starts from Day 1 of your employment.

Our team can help you bring a grievance to complain about discrimination, help with disciplinary proceedings and help you bring an Employment Tribunal claim for discrimination.

A discrimination claim must be brought within 3 months of the discrimination occurring so if you feel you have been the victim of sexual orientation discrimination then please do not hesitate in seeking confidential advice from our experienced team of solicitors today.
